Last year's fall fashion focused on the punk rock and heavy music fashion of the 1980's. This year's fall fashions continue with the 80's theme; however, the fashion is directed at the casual fashion of the 80's. The fashion is also inspired by the GLEE television show, which often covers songs from the 80's.

Leggings Trend

In the 80's many girls wore stir-up pants, which were tight, cotton leggings with a "stir-up" that hooked around the foot. Girls sported this pants in various colors and prints. Today, leggings are making a comeback. Black leggings are by far the most popular color, so purchasing an extra pair or two will ensure a clean pair is always available.

Many 80's rockers, including males, wore shiny leggings. These leggings were usually made of spandex and molded to the body. Today, the trend has returned. The leggings are often referred to as "liquid leggings" as they appear painted on the leg. Black is also a very popular color to acquire, as is gray/silver and electric blue.

Over-Sized Shirts Trend

Since the leggings will be a popular choice of clothing, certain tops are essential pieces to also have. A good rule of thumb is to wear a shirt that covers one's bottom. This is best referred to as an over-sized shirt. Tank tops are not a good match unless worn under an over-sized shirt.

Some good choices include cotton T-shirts, long sweaters, blazer/coats, and flannel shirts. Layering is still going to be popular, so starting with a simple white T-shirt and then a black blazer coat is a great look.

Demin Skirt Trend

Demin skirts never go out of style. It is only the length of the skirt that goes in and out of fashion. This fall mini and micro-mini skirts will be a must have. The difference between the two is the length. A mini skirt will fall halfway between the waist and knee. Micro-mini skirts barely falls passed one's bottom.

Because the length of these skirts are so short, many public schools have a dress code against them if worn alone. The skirts are ideal if worn with a pair of the previously mentioned leggings. Skirts that appear worn and are more of an indigo color are popular.

Shoes for the Fall

Two of the more popular shoe trends will be a basic sneaker and heeled ankle boots. Last year the Converse high tops were popular. This year the Converse low cut sneakers are the trend. The plainer the better with this trend.

Ankle boots also come in a variety of choices. The ones that will be seen in the fall will have a mid-sized heel, which is less than two inches. The boot style will resemble a "Victorian" boot and once again black is the essential color.

The clothing trends this fall will be simple yet versatile. Girls can create multiple looks with a few solid pieces. Teens can start with the leggings and wear a simple white T-shirt to school, then add a cropped jean jacket and skirt for a completely different look.
